Little Things to Make You Thankful – Week 2

Week 2 has showed me that sometime when you are not watching you will hear something that affects you. It may be something that you read or hear. It may be what you have put on a 3×5 card to repeat daily. But you know when it hits you.

Where I used to live on the wide plains of Kansas there was little bird that lived in the prairies year-round. Sometimes, I would hear it sing among the snowy wheat stubble or by the bank of a frozen creek. The song would catch me off guard, take a minute to sink in and then then fill me with happiness.  Just a little bird in the snow, still singing like it was summer!

Thankfulness can be just like that.  It can come when you least expect it—in a beautiful sunset after a hard day, in the friendly voice of an old friend, in a warm and safe house when the storm whips around the eves.   All of us are surrounded by things to be thankful for – though sometimes it takes something to remind us – and a little while for it to sink in.

Even after meetings that run too long, people who won’t listen, or misdirected shipments, here’s what always sinks in for me:   I am thankful for the opportunities we have every day to meet with friends -both old and new, to share ideas, to glory in one another’s triumphs, to hold each other up when there are setbacks and to help one another reach our goals.

To me, that pretty much sums up what we are learning in the MKMMA.
